Royal Decree
Dissolving the House of People's Representatives,
2538 BE

Bhumibol Adulyadej R
Given on the 19th day of May 2538 BE
Being the 50th year of the present reign

Phra Bat Somdet Phra Paramin Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej gives a great royal command by which He orders with His pleasure that it be announced as follows:

As the Prime Minister has humbly made the following submission to Him: Because the present House of People's Representatives is composed of various political parties, but none of the political parties has sufficient Members of the House of People's Representatives to form a government, making it necessary for a government to be formed by a coalition of many political parties, and, in the past state of affairs, many political parties appeared to be at variance to the point of being unable to carry out their political activities in a harmonious manner, resulting in a great deal of problems and obstacles to the handling of the public services of the State and the development of the Country. Even though the government would be formed anew, the problems and obstacles so described would still continue, which would lead to decadence of the administration under the democratic regime. It is appropriate to dissolve the House of People's Representatives in order to enable a general election of new Members of the House of People's Representatives;

Therefore, by virtue of the powers under the stipulations of section 118 and section 178 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand as amended by the Amendment to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand (No. 5), 2538 Buddhist Era, He orders with His gracious pleasure that the following Royal Decree be enacted:

Section1.This Royal Decree is called the "Royal Decree Dissolving the House of People's Representatives, 2538 BE".

Section2.This Royal Decree shall come into force from the day of its publication in the Royal Gazette onwards.

Section3.The House of People's Representatives shall be dissolved in order to enable an election of new Members of the House of People's Representatives.

Section4.A general election of Members of the House of People's Representatives shall take place on the 2nd day of July 2538.

Section5.The Minister of Interior shall be in charge of the execution of this Royal Decree.

Countersignatory:
Chuan Leekpai
Prime Minister
