House of Representatives
Dissolution Royal Decree,
2556 BE[1]
Bhumibol Adulyadej R
Given on the 9th day of December 2556 BE
Being the 68th year of the present reign
His Majesty King Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej is pleased to give a Great Royal Command that it be announced as follows:
Whereas the Prime Minister has notified Him of the following: Since assuming the duties of state administration in 2554 BE,[2] the Government has been determined to reinforce equality for the people throughout the Country and the Government has implemented various policies and measures as addressed to the National Assembly, which cover both the agricultural sector and the industrial economic sector and which include the enhancement of the quality of people’s lives by increasing the purchasing power domestically, creating balance and strength to the macroeconomic system in a quality manner in order to support the decelerating global economic condition, and reviving the relations and developing the cooperation with neighbouring countries and other countries expeditiously.
The Government has given importance to the reform of politics through extensive public participation, but the ongoing problems of conflict and discord amongst the people in the Nation have affected the public administration and the reputation of the Nation as well. Although the Government has attempted to ease the problems by peaceful means and has followed the steps of the law and the process of the Constitution, it is unable to bring the said problems to an end. Thus, it is found appropriate to dissolve the House of Representatives and have its Members elected anew through a general election in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Thailand, in order to return the power to make political decisions to the people throughout the Country and enable the parliamentary democratic administration with a Monarch as Chief to continue continuously;
Therefore, by the powers under the dispositions of sections 108 and 187 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, He is graciously pleased to enact the following Royal Decree:
Section1.This Royal Decree is called the House of Representatives Dissolution Royal Decree, 2556 BE.
Section2.This Royal Decree shall enter into operation from the day of its publication in the Royal Gazette onwards.
Section3.The House of Representatives shall be dissolved so as to have its Members elected anew.
Section4.An election of Members of the House of Representatives, being a general election, shall take place on Sunday, the 2nd day of February 2557 BE.[3]
Section5.The Prime Minister and the President of the Election Commission shall be in charge of the implementation of this Royal Decree.
