Translation[edit]
Note that the English translation is an original one which I created for Wikipedia in 2001. I released it under the GFDL licence. Unfortunately it has been copied here without the attribution which that licence requires. -- Derek Ross 20:04, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- It is a bit late to import the history, however we can recreate a history and post it here, as is the typical transwiki process. Rather than record every Wikipedia edit, we should only include revisions that altered the translation. I have started the process by noting the initial translator. I'd like to translate "Summo Pontifici" as Supreme Pontiff. That's the standard translation when referring to the Pope. Caedmon85 (talk) 13:38, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
I made the following changes:
- Changed "considering the trouble and anguish brought on us" to "considering with paternal eyes the trouble and anguish brought on us and the Church of God", because the Latin says "tribulaciones et angustias nobis et Ecclesie dei illatas ab Anglicis paternis occulis intuentes".
- Added "This we declare and testify to Christ's vicar and to all Christendom" for "Quod Christi vicario totique Christianitati ostendimus et testamur".
- A couple minor changes to the translation.
- Corrected the Latin transcription in a couple places, after consulting the image in the Wikipedia article.
