Chap. XXXV.An Act to amend an act, entitled “An act authorizing the construction of a bridge across the Potomac, and repealing all acts already passed in relation thereto.”

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the act entitled “An act authorizing the construction of a bridge across the Potomac, and repealing all acts already passed in relation thereto,” which was approved on the thirtieth of June, eighteen hundred and thirty-four, be, and the same is hereby, amended, so far as to authorize a connexion, by a solid embankment across the middle, commonly called the Swash channel, of the river Potomac, of the two embankments now constructing on the shoals of the said river, and the addition of the several improvements upon the plan of the said bridge, contemplated in the contract for the construction thereof, which are recommended in the letter of the engineer superintending the said work, to the Secretary of the Treasury, bearing date December first, eighteen hundred and thirty-four, and transmitted to the House of Representatives on the eighth of that month: Provided,Proviso. That the said additional embankment and improvement shall not cause the entire cost of the said bridge to exceed, in amount, the sum of one hundred and thirty thousand dollars, already appropriated thereto.
