No. 5. A Resolution in relation to the purchase of domestic water-rotted hemp for the use of the United States Navy.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,Purchase of domestic water-rotted hemp, for the navy, directed. That the Secretary of the Navy be, and he hereby is, directed to purchase domestic water-rotted hemp for the use of the United States Navy, so far as the same shall be found of suitable quality, and can be used beneficially to the service, having regard to the cost, strength, and durability of the article; and for that purpose shall cause purchases of such hemp to be made in the different hemp-growing regions of the Union.

This resolution to remain in force 7 years.Sec. 2. And be it further resolved, That this joint resolution shall be and remain in force for the period of seven years from the passing thereof.
