![]() | The Annual Administrative Reports of the territories of British India presented here are from the India Office Records collections held by the British Library. The Records are the archives of the administration, from London, of the East India Company and the pre-1947 Government of India. These reports provide an annual summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the administrations they cover. The structure of the report and the types of information included follow a form prescribed by the Government of India in 1870. The data and information in the reports was gathered and presented by colonial administrators in civil and military roles, for their fellow administrators. The reports reflect the colonists’ attitudes towards their own rule and towards the people they rule, expressed in the language of the day. Readers of these reports will therefore regularly encounter both language and attitudes which are unacceptable today. |
