Removing technical barriers from translation with fluent translation tools and solid infrastucture.

About me

I'm a Finnish software developer, with a M.A. in Language Technology. I am a free software contributor since 2003. I joined Wikipedia in 2004 and soon became a MediaWiki translator. To aid my translation work, I created translatewiki.net. Now thousands of volunteer translators use it to translate of many dozens of free software projects in hundreds of languages.

I mainly use my volunteer accounts on Wikimedia and translatewiki.net.

My work

I started working at the Wikimedia Foundation in 2011. I continue doing what brought me to MediaWiki: making the translation process easy and fast. I work on i18n (making the software translatable) and facilitating l10n (adapting and translating the software to particular language and culture).

My main areas of work are language selector, input methods, webfonts, translation infrastructure and translation tools for for user interface messages, banners, documentation and Wikipedia articles.

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
