Charlie Chaplin's Burlesque on Carmen 1 The smugglers.

2 "A new officer guards the breach in the wall. I will arrange with

     him to let us pass."

3 Darn Hosiery, the new officer.

4 "Do not try to hide any smuggled

       goods in there."

5 Pastia, tavern keeper, in league

     with the smugglers.

6 "Smugglers pay well for

  blindness, Señor."

7 "Do not try to bring any smuggled

      goods through here."

8 Carmen, the Gypsy.

9 "This Darn Hosiery cannot

      be bought."

10 "I will give you this incorruptible

officer bound hand and foot --
            by love."

11 Sunset -- and Carmen smiles.

12 Corporal Morales.

13 The game begins.

14 "I'll come tonight to Pastia's."

15 Under the tavern lights.

16 "To smuggle goods through, you must stay near Darn Hosiery. We will give you work in the factory."

17 Escamillo, a toreador.

18 "Let the toreador wait."

19 "We shall see."

20 "Your charms tonight are for

      Darn Hosiery."

21 "You do not ask me to

   dance, Señor."

22 "My kisses are not so easily won."

23 The smugglers are at the breach.

24 "Send them away."

25 "We must use him tonight before he thinks of anything but me."

26 The Secret Signal.

27 "Would I come here if I did

     not love you?"

28 "They are my people. Let them

       pass -- for me."

29 The following day at the

  cigarette factory.

30 "Your words hit hard, but I

      hit harder."

31 "Let me speak to my uncle."

32 "They are taking me to prison."

33 "And I will keep the key to

        the cell."

34 "My thanks, Señor -- and

       goodbye."

35 "Go to our camp."

36 "I have paid the full price to

       make you mine."

37 "I go to Seville with Escamillo."

38 Near the bull ring at Seville.

39 "My chance has come at last. Fame and fortune await me

   in the bull ring."

40 Darn Hosiery follows Carmen

       to Seville.

41 Hosiery waits by the gates

    for Escamillo.

42 "Carmen belongs to no man.

      She is free."

43 "I turned traitor and I killed to

win you -- then you gave
      yourself to him!"

44 "He shall not have you -- my

     beautiful Carmen!"

45 "Darn Hosiery, you have killed

me -- but I am free!"
