This hymn is often mistakenly attributed to Martin Luther. There are two common musical settings: "Mueller" by James Ramsey Murray and "Cradle Song" by William James Kirkpatrick, and many other settings also exist (see Not So Far Away In A Manger: Forty One Settings of an American Carol [1] by Richard S. Hill, 1945)
