why listed copyright works here[edit]

What is the objective for "Copyrighted and restricted by copyright holder"? I'm failing to see why we need to mention that it would be good to put w:Harry Potter online: its not going to happen for a very long time! What types of works should be listed in that section? John Vandenberg 08:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We list works that are either uploaded on a (semi-)regular basis or ones that are requested regularly. Obviously we don't want to list every copyrighted work, but the admins get tired of always deleting the exact same work (and sometimes we don't catch it for a while, either) when it's been reuploaded. So, we put a notice there in the hopes it might keep one or two extra uploads of that work.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:17, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, don't rule out the possibility that the copyright holder might be persuaded either to license the work under CC-BY-SA or to release it into the public domain. This may be a pie-in-the-sky hope for high-profile works, but it's been known to happen, I think? --LarryGilbert (talk) 23:14, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I propose moving them into "Declined requests", citing a clear reason why they have been rejected, as these requestes cannot be progressed at this time. --Gavin.collins (talk) 10:28, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

incomplete works[edit]

I created a new section, moved the nearly empty title Democracy in America and suppressed the redirect. This one was idle for two years, our Page namespace allows development before adding the work to our catalogue. Stubs are not useful here, as they are at en.wp, mainspace is littered with title pages of works we do not have. cygnis insignis 07:06, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

King James[edit]

Daemonology by King James might be helpful to some people (such as old women). Beadtot67.72.98.45 17:06, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

oracle bones[edit]

Any texts that describe oracle-bones found and provide photographs for study might be helpful, such as the one from University of California (USA) Press. beadtot 67.72.98.45 19:37, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Once upon a time ...[edit]

Not sure how long we wish for works to be listed on this page, or how we might better prepare a list where the work is not available at that time but may wished to be checked on an annual basis either for it becoming PD, or it being now available. I don't see that much of this page is useful beyond being a moribund forgotten list. Maybe we can have a requested section, and a pending section. Maybe the pending section can have an item built into WD that has some smarts that allows it to be displayed when it gets a listing on Hathi Trust, IA or Google books. I dunno, just think that we can build something better. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:08, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think there are definitely two kinds of request here:
  • Works someone we feels we should have (e.g. War and Peace, until recently). Perhaps with a section for PD-in-future works we should keep an eye on.
  • Scan sourcing/upload requests which perhaps we should farm out to a different venue. For example, a re-purposed WS:OCR -> WS:SCAN?
The primary difference being the first one has less expectation that the requester might work on it.
Regardless, the ancient backlog here should just be cleared down by finding Indexes where possible and closing, since the requesters are probably long gone or no longer interested. How we'd like it to work going forward could be different. Inductiveloadtalk/contribs 11:33, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
