1 Maccabees is a book of the Septuagint, the Greek Jewish Scriptures. It is accepted as canonical by Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox Christians, but rejected by Protestants and Jews. It was probably written in Hebrew originally, but the original Hebrew version is lost. The author is unknown, but probably wrote in the w:Hasmonean kingdom around 100 BCE (with a possible range of ~135 BCE–76 BCE).
