PRÆNESTINUS. The Latinised form of the name of the great Italian composer, derived from he town of Prseneste, one of the most ancient cities of Italy, and now called Palestrina. 'Johannes Petrus Aloisius Prænestinus' answers to the Italian 'Giovanni Pier Luigi da Palestrina.'
