SCHUBERT, Louis, violinist and singing-master, born Jan. 27, 1828, at Dessau, went in his 18th year to St. Petersburg, and then as Concertmeister to Königsberg, where he remained till 1862. He then returned to Dresden, where he enjoyed a great reputation as a teacher of singing. He has published a method of singing in the form of songs, and four of his operettas have become favourites.
