Martineau, James, hon. D.D. (Leyden, 1875), created D.C.L. 20 June, 1888, presbyterian minister Dublin 1828, Liverpool 1832, and in London 1850-72, professor of mental and moral philosophy Manchester New College 1841, principal 1868, a founder of the 'National Review,' author of various religious works, born at Norwich 21 April, 1805.
