Irishman who served as a British consular official in China, most notably as the second Inspector-General of China's Imperial Maritime Custom Service (IMCS) from 1863 to 1911

Robert Hart wrote a series of articles in a variety of magazines in the immediate aftermaths of the Boxer Rebellion, in order to reconnect Chinese Imperial Government with the Western powers. He also wrote verse, scattered across works about him.
