Banjo Paterson copyright[edit]

It appears that all of (or at least the bulk of) Paterson's poetry published prior to the end of 1922 is included in the Wikisource catalog. The rest have not been included as noted: "These works are not included in Wikisource because they do not meet the criteria for inclusion."

I believe this to be incorrect for an Australian author for works published in Australia. Copyright here in Australia expires if "the creator died before 1 January 1955." Which is certainly the case for Paterson. It is my contention then that later Paterson works are in the Public Domain and can be included here. Copyright in Australia is not normally relevant for the US. The US does not have the rule of the shorter term, but early 20th century US copyright law required several hoops to be jumped through for people wanting copyright, rules that were rarely followed by non-Americans. The URAA would have restored copyright in 1996 to Australian works, but only those in copyright in Australia (so a limited form of the rule of the shorter term), and in 1996 Paterson's copyright had already expired in Australia.
Long story short, Andrew Paterson's works are almost certainly out of copyright in the US; I see no evidence that that any of them were renewed, though if a poem was first published in a magazine or anthology that was renewed, it would most likely be still in copyright and I would have missed the notice.--Prosfilaes (talk) 07:53, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The man from Snowy River and other verses[edit]

I've added Index:The man from Snowy River and other verses.pdf as a scanned source for some of Paterson's poems.--Prosfilaes (talk) 16:59, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
