Conolly Norman was born in Fahan, County Donegal, and was educated in Dublin. In 1876 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland; his specialist subject was the study of insanity. From 1886 to 1908 he was superintendent of Richmond Asylum, where he instigated improved methods of treatment. (Source: Dictionary of Ulster Biography)
His name is in the first chapter of "Ulysses (novel)" James Joyce. "He's up in Dottyville with Conolly Norman".
