Scots sounds similar to English, but is a separate language; it has a separate Wikipedia (w:sco:) and a test Wiktionary in the Incubator (incubator:Wt/sco). Please transwiki this to oldwikisource:. 24.68.146.148 17:31, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Wikisources are generally broader then Wikipedias. It is expected by the Language Committee that ancient forms of a language be hosted on the Wikisource using its modern version, with the exceptions being Latin (many descendants) and Ancient Greek (large body of Ancient Greek speakers who don't speak Modern Greek). Moreover, a Wikipedia is a work produced in a language; there's value in an encyclopedia article in English and one on the same subject in Scots, but they need to go to separate Wikipedias. A Wikisource is a collection; we can host a translation in English and a translation in Scots in the same Wikisource, no problem.

If there were a group of editors adding Scots texts, if they wanted to open a Scots Wikisource, I wouldn't object. I wouldn't agree, but there would be a critical mass of texts and editors, and it would make the people doing the work happy. To take a small group of texts added by English Wikisource editors (sometimes quite dedicated ones), and move them to a catch-all Wikisource for all the languages without a better home is no win for anyone. It won't produce more Scots texts, and it won't make the existing ones more noticeable.--Prosfilaes (talk) 10:23, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
