CAPUT XV

Ðys godspel gebyrað on þone þryddan wōdnesdæg innan lenctene.

1. Ðā cōmon tō him fram Hierusalem þā bōceras and Fariseisce, and cwǣdon,

2. Hwī forgȳmað þīne leorningcnihtas ūre yldrena lage? ne þwēað hī hyra handa, þonne hig mete þicgeað.[1]

3. Đā andsworode hē him, And hwī forgȳme gē Godes bebod for ēowre lage?[2]

4. Witodlīce God cwæþ, Wurþa þīnne fæder and mōdor; and, Sē þe wyrgð hys fæder and mōdor, swelte sē dēaþe.[3]

5. Sōþlīce gē cweðaþ, Swā hwylc swā segð hys fæder and mēder, Swā hwylc lāc swā of mē is fremaþ þē;[4]

6. and ne wurðiaþ fæder and mōdor. And gē for nāht dydon Godes bebod for ēowre lage.[5]

7. La līcceteras, wel be ēow wītegode Isaias sē wītega, þā hē cwæð,[6]

8. Þis folc mē mid welerum wurþað, and hyra heorte ys feorr fram mē;[7]

9. būtan intingan hig mē wurþiaþ, and lǣrað manna lāra.[8]

10. And hē þā, ðām menegum tōgædere geclypedum, þus cwæð, Gehȳrað and ongytaþ:[9]

11. ne besmīt þone mann þæt on hys mūþ gǣþ; ac hyne besmīt þæt of hys mūþe gǣþ.[10]

12. Þā genēalǣhton hys leorningcnihtas, and cwǣdon, Wāst þū þæt þā Fariseiscean synt gedrēfede, þisum worde gehȳredum?[11]

13. Þā andswarode hē him, Ǣlc plantung þe mīn heofenlīca Fæder ne plantode byþ āwyrtwalod.[12]

14. Lǣtað hī; hig synt blinde and blindra lāttēowas. Sē blinda gyf hē blindne lǣt, hig feallað bēgen on ǣnne pytt.[13]

15. Đā andswarode him Petrus, Ārece ūs þis bigspell.[14]

16. Đā andswarode hē him, And synt gē gȳt būtan andgyte?[15]

17. Ne ongyte gē þæt eall þæt on þone mūþ gǣþ gǣþ on þā wambe, and byþ on forþgang āsend?

18. Sōþlīce þā þing þe of þām mūðe gāþ cumað of þǣre heortan, and þā smītaþ þone mann.[16]

19. Of þǣre heortan cumaþ yfle geþancas, mannslyhtas, unrihthǣmedu, forligru, stale, lēase gewitnyssa, tāllīce word:[17]

20. þis synt þā ðing þe þone mann besmītað; ne besmīt þone mann, þēah hē unþwogenum handum ete.[18]

21. And þā fērde sē Hǣlend þanon on Tyrisce and Sydonisce endas.[19]

22. And efne þā of þām Chananeiscum gemǣrum clypode sum wīf and cwæð, Drihten, Dauides sunu, gemiltsa mē; mīn dohtor ys yfle mid dēofle gedreht.[20]

23. Þā ne geandswarode hē hyre. Þā genēalǣhton hys leorningcnihtas, and him tō cwǣdon, Forlǣt hig; for þām hēo clypað æfter ūs.

24. Đā andswarode hē, Ne eom ic āsend, būton tō þām scēapum þe forwurdon of Israhela hūse.[21]

25. Đā cōm hēo, and hig tō him gebæd and þus cwæð, Drihten, gefylst mē.[22]

26. Đā cwæð hē, Nys hit nā gōd þæt man nime bearna hlāf and hundum wurpe.[23]

27. Þā cwæþ hēo, Drihten, þæt ys sōð; witodlīce þā hwelpas etað of þām crumum þe of hyra hlāforda bēodum feallaþ.[24]

28. Þā andswarode Drihten hyre, Ēalā þū wīf, mycel ys þīn gelēafa; gewurþe þē eal swā þū wylle. And þā of þǣre tīde wæs hyre dohtor hāl geworden.[25]

29. Đā sē Hǣlend þanon fērde, eft hē cōm wiþ ðā Galileiscean sǣ; and āstāh on þone munt, and þǣr sæt.[26]

30. Þā genēalǣhton him tō mycele menegu, mid him hæbbende manega healte, and blinde, and wanhāle, and manega ōþre, and ālēdon tō hys fōtum; and hē gehǣlde þā:[27]

31. swā þæt þā mænegu wundredon, gesēonde dumbe specende, healte gangende, blinde gesēonde; and hig mǣrsodon Israhela God.[28]

32. Þā cwæþ sē Hǣlend, tōgædere geclypedum his leorningcnihtum, Đisse menegu[29] ic gemiltsige, for þām hig þrȳ dagas mid mē wunodon, and hig nabbað hwæt hig eton; and ic hig nelle fæstende forlǣtan, þē lǣs hig on wege getēorian.[30]

33. Đā cwǣdon hys leorningcnihtas, Hwār nime wē swa fela hlāfa on þīs wēstene, þæt wē gefyllan swā mycele mænegu?[31]

34. Þā cwæð hē, Hū fela hlāfa hæbbe gē? Þā cwǣdon hig, Seofon, and fēawa fixa.[32]

35. And hē bebēad þā þæt sēo menegu sǣte ofer þǣre eorþan;[33]

36. and hē nam þā þā seofon hlāfas and þā fixas, and bræc, and sealde hys leorningcnihtum, and hig sealdon þām folce.[34]

37. And hig ǣton ealle and wǣron gefyllede; and þæt tō lāfe wæs of þām gebrote hig nāmon, seofon wilian fulle.[35]

38. Witodlīce þā [þe] þǣr ǣton wǣron fēower þūsend manna, būtan cildum and wīfum.[36]

39. And hē forlēt þā þā menegu, and ēode on scyp, and cōm on þā endas Magedan.[37]
