In Memoriam (1850)
by Alfred Tennyson
First published in 1850, this is a transcription of the first edition. The work is a requiem for the poet's friend, Arthur Henry Hallam who died suddenly of a cerebral haemorrhage in Vienna in 1833, aged 22.
Contrary to the statement in The Bibliography of Tennyson this edition consists of 129 (not 130) numbered sections in addition to the Prologue and the Epilogue. The final version contains 132 sections, and first appeared in 1871 in the first collected edition of Tennyson's works.
