Scribal abbreviations[edit]

This text contains a number of w:scribal abbreviations. Guidelines for this transcriptions is as follows:

  • Abbreviated words should be expanded using {{def}}. (removed, see below)
  • Overlined letters (indicating a following "m" or "n") should use a combining overline, not a macron. For example, a͏̅ is good, ā is bad. (removed, see below)
  • Use {{sup}} for superscript characters.
  • The transcription should follow the source in using "z" and not "ȝ", even when the latter is otherwise preferable. Likewise with "h" and "η".
  • Other symbol characters can be seen on Page:Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern.djvu/327.

Proposal to remove two of the above guidelines[edit]

I think that the use of {{def}} is in violation of WS:ANN and should be removed. I also think macrons are preferable to overlines. @The Man in Question: you were the one to make those stylistic decisions, do you have any objection to my changing them? —Beleg Tâl (talk) 20:55, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
