Should capitalization of image captions be maintained? --Spangineerwp (háblame) 14:12, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

whitespace at end of lines[edit]

There was a space at the end of each paragraph here. Do we want those? if not, we should run a semi-auto bot over the pages to remove them all. John Vandenberg (chat) 11:30, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a benefit in doing so? I stopped removing them as it just took longer to undertake, and they didn't seem to be causing harm. Where possible (noticed) I have removed the hard returns and components that cause formatting issues when transcluded. At this point, the only problem is some hanging indents that don't transclude well, and I have left a note on Jack Merridew's talk page asking for some assistance. -- billinghurst (talk) 12:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
trailing white-space is evil incarnate; it is almost as bad as tab characters. That said, it doesn't outright hurt anything in most situations. I do remove them as a matter of course on most any text I edit. I do most any significant editing in an external editor that has commends for this sort of thing and options to display hidden characters. For text that has a trailing space followed by a newline everywhere a scan does, the presence of the space allows easy manual joining of the line without a typist having to provide a space in lieu of a newline; they just have to position the cursor and hit delete or fn-delete as appropriate. Whether we want to bot-job them all would really be a decision related to whether we want to auto-glue consecutive non-null lines together into a single paragraph. Hmm… Cheers, Jack Merridew 13:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
