Progress

[edit]

Formatting as of 2023

[edit]

The formatting guidelines above are out of date. Please use the following. I am in the process of updating all pages to match.

Header, left page

{{rh|#|RUDYARD KIPLING'S VERSE|}}
{{dhr}}

Header, right page

{{rh||INCLUSIVE EDITION, 1885-1918|#}}
{{dhr}}

Poem title

{{center|{{larger|{{uc|Poem Title Here}}}}}}

Poem body

Use {{ppoem}} for main stanzas. Use {{gap}} for indents.

First words (capitalized, drop initial) should be written thus:

{{drop initial|T}}{{uc|he capitalized}}

For the smaller introductory stanzas that precede some poems, the only formatting I have found that works is:

{{block center|{{smaller block|Here is a line of a poem<br/>
{{gap}}A poem by Kipling, I'm sure<br/>
A poem so good it'll blow 'em<br/>
{{gap}}Halfway to Kuala Lumpur.}}}}
{{dhr}}

But by all means suggest something more elegant.

Between two poems

{{dhr}}
{{rule|3em}}
{{dhr}}

@Solemn1: This looks good. When there are multiple indents, should we use {{gap|(x)em}} or something else? Cremastra (talk) 18:33, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
To avoid confusion: inside a {{ppoem}} one should generally use : rather than {{gap}} for indentation (some lines are actually right-aligned rather than very indented, and can be done using <<). And those introductory stanzas can be done using {{ppoem}} too, just with a custom class name and styling in Help:Page styles. If the only custom formatting is {{smaller block}} you can even just use the pre-defined class {{ppoem|class=smaller}}. Xover (talk) 14:33, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, some if not many of the validated pages don't use {{ppoem}} at all, they use the older layout (at the top of the page). Cremastra (talk) 21:56, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
