Mrs John Francis Smith[edit]

The Catalogue of the Edinburgh Subscription Library 1794–1846 lists:

  • Smith (Mrs John Francis), The Decameron of the West: A Series of Tales. Edin. 1839. 8vo.

And again in the index, showing it was not likely a printer's error:

  • Decameron of the West, - - - v. Smith (Mrs John).

The catalogue was published in Edinburgh only seven years after this book, which could make this attribution more likely. --YodinT 19:41, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also worth noting the number of Smiths in the title page list of publishers:
  • Smith & Son; M. Ogle; and D. Bryce, Glasgow
  • Brown & Co.; and L. Smith, Aberdeen
  • Smith, Elder, & Co., London
A "Mr Smith" also appears as a character in the chapter "An Execution in the House" (pp. 320323). --YodinT 19:51, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
