Smart composed this musical arrangement for Reginald Heber's hymn "From Greenland's Icy Mountains" in 1835 for the use of a festival celebrating the 300th anniversary of the English Reformation. It was originally printed on leaflets, and was first published in 1867 in Smart's Psalms and Hymns for Divine Worship.
