Beckett, Sir Edmund, Bart., Q.C., M.A., Trin. Coll., Camb., 1841, LL.D. 1863, chancellor of the consistory court of York 1877, leader of the parliamentary bar, a life governor of King's Coll., London, since 1881, sometime a member of council, J.P. Herts and Yorks West Riding, succeeded as 5th bart. 1854, a student of Lincoln's Inn 22 March, 1838 (then aged 21), called to the bar 23 Nov., 1841, Q.C. 10 July, 1854, bencher 2 Nov., 1854, treasurer 1876 (eldest son of Edmund Denison, Esq., of Doncaster); born 12 May, 1816; married 7 Oct., 1845, Fanny Catharine, dau. of late Rt. Rev. John Lonsdale, bishop of Lichfield (see Foster's Baronetage).
