King's Coll., London, M.A., Magdalen Hall, Oxon, 1843, author of The Prose or Younger Edda, translated from the old Norse, dedicated to Thomas Carlyle (Stockholm and London, 1842); A Grammar of the Icelandic or Old Norse Tongue, translated from the Swedish of Erasmus Rask (London and Frankfort-on-the-Main, 1843); Theophilus, in Icelandic, Low German, and Other Tongues, from MSS. in the Royal Library, Stockholm (London and Stockholm, 1845); Popular Tales from the Norse, with an introductory essay on the origin and diffusion of popular tales, 1st edition (Edinburgh, 1859); Story of Burut Njal, or Life in Iceland at the End of the Tenth Century, from the Icelandic of the Njals Saga, 2 vols.
