The National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA as it is commonly called, is the name of the U.S. federal law that is passed every fiscal year (October 1st through September 30th) that tells the Department of Defense what it must do, what it may do and what it may not do. The NDAA typically authorizes the majority of the funding for military functions of the Department of Defense, prescribes military personnel levels and outlines the policy and practices the DoD and related agencies should follow.
