Sabb. 63b א׳ זו בירית what the Mishnah calls birith is the Biblical etsadah; modified ibid. וכ׳ א׳ תחת בירית birifh. has the function of the etsadah (Rashi birith around the knee serves tte same purrpose as etsadah on the shoulder, to save inconvenience in walking).
