גמיקין m. pl. (γαμικα, τα) marriage, nuptial feast (the guests of which are the witnesses of the marriage; v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Aarriage); wedding contract. Pesik. Hahod. p. 52b; Yalk.Ex. 190 a king married many wives איפטיא ולא ג׳ לא להם כתב ולא but did not order in their behalf a record of the nuptial act or of the date of mar- riage וכ׳ ג׳ לה וכתב . . שנשא וכיון but when he married a woman of noble descent, he had her marriage recorded as we read (Esth. II, 16) &c., v. איפטיא; Pesik. R. s. 15 גהיקן כתובת (read גמ׳). Ex. R. s. 32 גמיסקין ביניהם שאין for there is between them no wedding feast to testify to their alliance. Ib. s. 47 משלו גמיסקוס לה כתב he had a. marriage contract written at his own expense; לה עשה וכ׳ ולואי ג׳ prepare thou the certificate, and would I could prevail upon myself to end my signature to it . גמל (b. h.) [to tie, couple, load,] 1) to load (good or evil) on, to deal with, esp. to do good to. Gen. R. s. 38 תחלה עליך ג׳ שהוא for he was the first to do thee good; Yalk. Prov. 956. -- Sabb. 104a דלים גמול, v. גימ״ל. - חסדד ג׳ to be kind, charitable. Ib. וכ׳ חסדים גומל של דרכו שכן (Ms. M. גומלי של דרכן) for such is the habit of the charitable to run after the poor. Yeb. 79a; a. v. fr. --- 2) to make even, repay. Dem. IV, 6 כגומלין שהן אע״פ זה את זה although it has the appearance as if they were repaying each other (by mutual recommendations). Ab.
