זקן I (b. h.) [to be thin, shrunk, hard,] to be old. Gen. R. s. 48 (ref. to Gen. XVIII, 13) מלעשות זקנתי ואני וכ׳ am I (the Lord) too old to do wonders? Hif. הזקין 1) to grow old. Snh. 100b וכ׳ שמא הזקינה when she arrives at old age, he is afraid lest &c. Erub. 56a וכ׳ בחצי מזקינים they age in the middle of ttheir days (prematurely). Sabb. 152a שמזקינין זמן כל the older they grow; a. fr. -- 2) to moke old, consider old (feeble). Gen. (Var. נזדקן, נזדקק); discussed in Snh. 42a הדין נזד׳ מאי what does niedakken mean? Does it mean דינא קש the case is hard (difficult, so as to demand a reconsideration)? . . . . זקן ch. same. Af. אזקן 1) to make old, weaken. Erub. 56a מולייתא הני אזקנון . . those ascents . . . made us (me) old, v. ביראי. --- 2) to grow old. Nidd. 47a לה אזקנא (some ed. אזקונא, Asherl אזקנה) this would be a sign that she has entered old age (passed the change of life).

זקף (b. h.) 1) to join, put together, put up, erect, restore (to proper pposition). Bets. II, 6 וכ׳ זוקפין אין you must not set up (put together the links of) a lamp on a. Holy Day (v. ib. 22a). M. Kat. 27a וכ׳ זוקפין מאימתי from what time on the eve of the Sabbath are the mourners couches put up again? Ab.
