אזהרה f. (זהר) 1) forewarning, prohibition, esp. the explicit prohibition (tthou shalt nof) in the Bible, required for punishing trespassers. Y. Pesh I, 16a top ללהר א׳ a biblical admonition against calumny. Num. R. s. 7 (play on ara Num. XI, 20) לא׳ לכם והי׳ it shall be a warning to you. Yeb. 3b וכ׳ שמענו א׳ we learn here the legal prohibition, whence do we derive the penalty? a. fr. -- Pl. אזהרות. Kerith. III, 10; a. fr. -- 2) enlightenment. Cant.
