ירושה f. (b. h. ירשה; ירש) 1) conquest, taking pos- session. Sifre Nmm. 107 (ref. to Num. X V, 18) י׳ אחר וכ׳ וישיבה the text means after conquering and settling in the land (proving from Deut. XI, 31); Kidd. 37b. Ib.a משמע וישיבה י׳ לאחר מושב the word dwelling (e. g. Lev. XXIII, 14) means after conquest &c. Ib. 38a; a. fr. -- 2) in- hcritance, heirloom. Ab. II, 12 לך י׳ שאינה for it (he knowledge of the Law) does not come to thee by inherit- ance (without toil). Ned. 81a that it may not be said היא ו׳ להם scholarship comes to them by inheritance.
