Nif. נכתב to be written, be reduced to writing; to be
written upon. Meg. I, 8לשו נכתביםבכל הספרים the Biblical
books may be written in (translated into) any language
(v. ib. 9a); ib. וכ׳ שיכתבו התירו לא they permitted them
to be translated only into Greek. Ib. 7a ליכתב נאמרה was iin-
dited(by the divine spirit) for the purpose of being written
(as a book); Yoma 29a ליכתב נתנה (some ed. לכתוב); a. v. fr.
Hif. הכתיב 1) to cause to be written or recorded, to
dictate, indite. Gen. R. s. 22 וכ׳ לך הכתבתי כבר I have
already ordered to be written in the Law &c. Ruth R.
to II, 14 וכ׳ עליו מכתיב שהק״בה יודע ראובן היה אילו if R.
had known that the Lord would cause to be written about
him (Gen. XXXVII, 21) &c.; a. fr. -- Lev. R. s. 24 פרשיות ג׳
וכ׳ לנו ה׳ (Pesik. R. s. 15; Yalk. Ex. 307 כתכ) there are
three sections that Moses indited for us in the Law. --

Ib. וכ׳ רחמנא לכתוב it ought to read &c. Ber. 3b וכ׳ מהנשת לכתוב א״ה if this were so (that נשף invariably means evening), it ought to read (ISam. XXX, 17) הנשף ועד מהנשף; a. v. fr. -- כתיב it is written, it reads (used also in Hebr. diction). Ib. 13b דכ׳ בם לדבר for it says (Deut. XI, 19) 'to speak thereof'; ה״נ בם ודברת כ׳ הא here, too, (in the first part of the Sh'ma) it says (VI, 7), and thou shalt speak thereofl-- Meg. 10b ויהי התם וכ׳ . . . ויהי הכא כ׳ here (Lev. IX, 1) vayhi is used, and there (Gen. I, 5) vayhi is used. Ib. והכ׳, כ׳ והא but does it not also read &c. -- Gen. XVIII, 9) read איו, where is he (Abraham)?; ib. s. 78; Cant. R. to VII, 5. -- Tosef.
