נוה IIm., נו f. (b. h.; =נאוה, v. אוה II) marked-of place, circle, dwelling. Y. Ber. IX, 13c bot. (ref. to Jer. XXV, 30) נויהו בשביל on account of his (destroyed) dwell- ing (the Tempple); Midr. Till. to Ps. XVIII. Mekh. B'shall., Shir., s. 3 (ref. to ואנוהו, Ex. XV, 2) וכ׳ אלא נ׳ ואין (not נאה) naveh means the Temple (ref. to Ps. LXXIX, 7, a. e.). Sot. 9a (ref. to Ps. XXXIII, 1) תהלה נוה אלא נאוה תקרי אל read not ndpah (becoming) but n'veh of lory, i. e. a dwell- ing of glory is that of the righteous (which no human hand is permitted to destroy). נוול m. (next w.) contemptibility, degeneracy. Tanh. Vayesheb 1 (נוולן) נוולם להודיע to make their meanness known. -- Pl. נוולים. Ib. ונווליהם עקריהן לבריות להודיע to let people know their origins and their degeneration.
נוול, נול (emp. נבל) to be disfigured, look repulsive; to degenerate. Tosef. Sot. XIV, 7 ונולה אזלה (Var. ונבלה) becomes more and more corrupt. Pi. נוול to disfgure; to disgrace. B. Bath. 154a לנוולו . אי you are not permitted to disgrace him (to search a corpse for tokens of maturity). Sot. I, 6 לנוולה כדי ממנה מעבירים we divest her (of all jewelry) in order to disgrace her. Ned. 66a מנוולתן שהעניות . ישראל בנות Israel's daughters are handsome, it is only poverty that makes them appear homely. Sifre Deut. 240 (ref. to נבלה, Deut.
