פקעת f. (פקע) [that which is to be unravelled; cmp. בקעת] coil, lue of thread, of rope &c. Kel. X, 4במי של פ׳ a coil of rope made of reed grass. Gen. R. s. 12, beg. נטל וכ׳ הפ׳ דרך ונכנס . . . גמי של פ׳ he took a clue of rope and tied one end of it to the entrance, and he went in along the unwound rope, and came out along the rope; Koh. R. to II, 12 גמי פקיעת; Cant. R. to I, 1; a. e. -- Pl.. פפקעיות. Kel. XVIi, 2 שתי של בפ׳ שעורה is measured by the ordinary size of warp clues. פקפוק, פיק׳ m. (פקפק shaking, battering. - Pl. פקפוקין, פי׳. Y. Soh. II, 20b (ref. to פפוקה, ISam. XXV, 3) שם היה דברים פיקפוקי there was a battering attack with words (to demolish David's arguments).
פקפוקתא f. (preced.) breach. Y. Snh. II, 20b (ref. to פוקה, v. preced.) [read;] פקפוקתך תיפוק כד ליה אמרה וכ׳ she (Abigail) said to him, when thou openest thy breach (offerest a weak point), they will say of thee that thou art a murderer.
פקפק (v. פקק) 1) to drive a wedge in; to loosen, shake. Midr. Till. to Ps. LIII, v. infra. Succ. I, 7(5) מפקפק וכ׳ ונוטל he loosens(the boards of the ceiling)and takes one board out. Y. Sabb. XV, beg. 15a וכ׳ ומפקיעין מפקפקין (not בו) you may loosen the knot, or ravel it out, or untie &c., v. פקע; מפקיעין ולא מפקפקין you may loosen the knot, but not ravel it out; ib. XX, end, 17d; Y. Meg. I, 71a; Y. Bets. V, 63b top (not פקפקין). - Part. pass. מפוקקפק; f. מפוקפקת; pl. מפוקפקים, מפפוקפקין; מפוקפקות. Gen. R. s. 78 וכ׳ מפ׳ הברכות היו the blessings were as yet shaky (un- certain) in his hands, opp. נתאוששו, v. אוש; ib. s. 67. -- Trnsf. [to shake the foundations of] to contest the validity of, make light of. Eduy. V, 6 ידים בטהרת פ׳ he contested the rabbinical regulations concerning cleanness of hands; Ber. 19a. Ab. Zar. 35a בה מפקפקין ואין... גזירה tt is a recent enactment, and you must not shake it (discuss its reason before a year is past); a. e. - 2) (sub. פפיו, or דבר) to insert a wedge or coil in ond's mouth, be ggged, estopped from speaking. Midr. Till. to Ps. LIII (ref. to פוקה, I Sam. XXV, 31) [read as in ed. Bub.] מה לדין אצלך באין הן אם וכ׳ להוציאו יכול אתה ואין בדבר מפקפק ואתה עושה אתה if men will come to thee forudgment, what wilt thou do ? Thou wilt gag (thy mouth) with a word and be unable to bring it out, when they will say, has he not done so unto Nabal? Thus the text (I Sam. l. c.) reads, and let this not be unto thee a stopper, וכ׳ בפיך הפקפק אל do not put a gag in thy mouth (do not make thyself unable to give judgment boldly), nor say &c.; Yalk. Sam. 134. Hithpa. התפקק 1) to be shaken, loosened. Ber. 28b man must bow at prayer וכ׳ כל שיתפקפקו עד Ms. M. a. Ar. (ed. שיתפקקו, v. R. D. S. a. l. note 400) until all the vertebrae of the spine seem to be loosened. - 2)(v. פקק) to be stopped of. Yeb. 63b מתפכפקין עונותיו Ar. (ed. מתפקקין) his sins are stopped off (cannot come forth to accuse him).

פקק 1) to split, drive into, force open. Sabb. 155b ופוקק Ms. M., vv. פקס I. - Denom. פקק. - 2) (denom. of סקק; cmp. הדק a. חדק) to insert a stopgap; to stop. Kel. III, 8 וכ׳ שספקקו . . . משפך (not שפקקה) a funnel of wood or clay stopped off with pitch. Ib. XXVIII, 2 המרחץ את בו לפוק שהתקינו (ed. Dehr. לפקק) (a shred) with which it was intended to fill up a gap in the bath. Y. Erub. III, end, 25b לפוק צריך he must stop it offf. Tosef. ib. XI (VII), 10 וככ הביב את פוקקין you may stop off a. gutter with a cloth. Y. Sabb.
