פקק m. (preced.) 1) anything used to fill up a gap
(cmp. חדק), stop-gap, stopper. Sabb. XVII, 7החלון פ׳ the
stopper of the sky-light (compluvium), v. פקק. Tosef.
Erub. XI (VIII), 9 וכ׳ הפ׳ את נוטל he may take ont the
stopper between the two reservoirs &c. Y. Ter. VIII,c5a
חוצץ הפ׳ היה אם (not חוץ) if the stopper (of the bottle)
is tight; Tosef. ib. VII, 16 (correct version in agreement
with Y. l. c., v. פקק). Y. l. c. בפיקקו שינטל כדי so that
the bottle can be lifted by its stopper; a. fr. -- 2) the place
where a shoot is yoined to the trunk or to a branch of the
grape vine, knot. B. Kam. 81 ולמעלה הפ׳ מן (you are
permitted to take a shoot from a neighbor's vine) from
the knot and above it.
פקר (cmp. בקי, a preced. wds.) [to break through; cmp. פרן,] 1) to be free, licentious, irreverent, sceptical. Meg. 25bהמיני פקרו . .. תשובה מתוך Ms. M. (ed. המערערים) from the answer which Aaron gave to Moses (Ex. XXXII, 24) the heretics derived their heresy (to assert the reality of idolatrous witchcraft). Snh. 38b המינין שפקרו מקום כל וכ׳ Ms. M. (ed. הצדוקים) wherever in a Biblical passage the heretics seem to find a support for their scepticism (belief in a plurality of divine beings), their refutation is always near by; Y. Ber.IX, 12a bot. (not שפרקו); a. e. - 2) (with עצמי) to make free with ons's self; (of a woman) to propose marriage to a man. Y. Snh. II, 20b (ref. to ISam. XXV, 31 אמתך את וזכרת) עצמה שפקרה מלמד this shows that she intimated eventual marriage to David; a. e. Hif. הפקיר to declare free, to renounce ownership, declare a property ownerless. Gitt. 38a, a. e. עבדו המפקיר לחירות יצא if one declares his slave ownerless, he goes out free (and needs no letter of emancipation); ib. 39a וכ׳ וצריך . . . המפקיר he is entitled to his liberty, but requires a letter of emancipation. Yalk. Kings 224 כל ה׳ לו אשר (not הפקיד) he gave up all he possessed. Tanh. Pinhas 2 לקלון הפקירו מלך בת they offered a king's daughter to prostitution; מפקיר היה לא מי בתו ה׳ he [he king) ofered his daughter, who would not do the same?; a. fr. Hof. הופקר to be declared free. Peah VI, 1 שיופקר עד וכ׳ (Ms. M. שיבקר, read as Eduy. IV, 3 שיובקר) until it is declared free also for rich men; a. e. -- Part. pass. מופקר; f.. מופקרת; pl. מופקרים, מופקרין; מופקרות. Snh. 49a מדבר מה לכל מ׳ . ביתו אף לכל מ׳ as the desert is free to all, so was Joab's house free to all (that craved his hospitality). Tanh. Vayakhel 8 וכ׳ מ׳ התורה . . . מ׳ המדבר מה . למה why was the Law given in the desert? To intimate that as the desert is free to all, so are the words of the Law free to every one &c. Gen. R. s. 72 המ׳ מן שהוא דבר something which is free (ownerless); a. fr. -- V. הפקר.
פקר ch. same, 1) to break into; 2) to declare free; v. infra. -- 3) to be irreverent, sceptical. Snh. 38b אבל טפי דפ׳ . אפיקורוס but with a Jewish sceptic you must surely not argue, for he will become only bolder by it. Ib. 60a האי כולי פקירי מי are they (Jews) so bold (as to blaspheme God)?; a. e. Af. אפקר 1) to break into, trespass. Targ. Y. Ex. XXII, 4 (ed. Amst. יפקר; ed. Vien. יפקד, corr. acc.; h. text יבער). - 2) to declare free. Ib. XXIII, 11 (ed. Amst. Pe.; ed. Vien. ותפקד, corr. acc.; h. text ונטש׳). -- Suucc. 44b וכ׳ זיתיא אפקר declare thy olives free for the benefit of the poor. Ber. 47a, a. fr. וכ׳ מפקר בעי אי if he chooses, he may renounce ownership of his property, and be a. poor man &c. B. Mets. 30bוכ אפקרנהו עלמא לכולי Ideclared them free for all people but not for thee, (v. infra). Ib. אפקרינהו לכוע he declared them indeed free for all. Ib. 68b להו מפקיר אפפקורי presumably he has renounced ownership of them. M. Kat. 16a נכסיה מפקרינן we (the court) declare his property owneless; a. fr. -- Hull. 13b מפקר לא אשתו his own wife will he (the Samaritan) not give up to prosti- tution, v. infra -- Part. pass. מפקר. B. Mets. 30b וכ׳ מ׳ לכוע Ms. M. (Ms. F. מיפקר Ithpe.) it is made free to all, but not &c. Ithpe. אתפקר, איפקר 1) to behave irreverently, dis- respectfully. M. Kat. l. c. וכ׳ בשליחא מתפקר אי if he treats the messenger of the court with disrespect. Ib. ההוא וכ׳ דאית׳ טבחא a butcher behaved irreverently towards R. &c. -- 2) to prostitute ons's self. Snh. 82a ודאי נשייהו מיפקרי לא their (the Samaritans) wives will surely not prostitute themselves; V. supra.

פר, פר m. (b. h.) bullock. Taan. 23a הודאה פר the sacrificial bullock on which the owner placing his hand makes confession and prayer. Yoma III, 8 פרו אצל לו בא he (the high priest) now stepped towards the bullock selected for his sacrifice. Gen. R. s. 44 יוהוכ פר the bullock offered on the Day of Atonement; המצות כל על הבא פר the bullock which is offered by the high priest for every transgression of a command (Lev. IVV, 2 sq.).
