דש׳ the swine is forbidden, and as a compensation for it
the brain of the sh. serves; Lev. R. s. 22 ש׳ ששמו דג. Y.
Taan. IV, 69b ש׳ הנקרא הדג מן חון. . . וכשחזרו and when
the Israelites returned (from the Babylonian captivity),
all the animals exiled with them returned except the fish
named shibbuta. Pes. 112b דניסן ביומי ש׳ דג of the flshes
the sh. is bad for leprosy during the month of Nisan.

שיבולת, שבו׳, שבלת f ((b.h., שבל, Shaf of יבל; cmp. יבול) 1) ear of corn, spike. Peah V, 2 וכ׳ שבקציר ש׳ a single ear (that remained uncut when the cutting took place, but) he ttop of which reached up to the standingf corn; if (by its position) it might have been cut with the standing corn &c. Midr. Till. to Ps. II וכ׳ הקנה בראש והש׳ and the ear is on top of the stalk, and its stalk boasts and says, for my sake has the field been sown; a. fr. -- Midr. Sam. ch. XX וכ׳ גבוהה שבולתם שהיתה (not שמלתם) their spikkes were as high as those of barley (v. נבה). -ששש׳־ שועל (fomx-tail,) oats. Kil.I, 1 וכ׳ ש׳ וש׳ השעורים barley and oats... . are not considered heterogeneous; (Maim.; desert (wild) barley). Pes. Ker. 6a; Y..Yoma IV, 41d. -- זקן ש׳ the pointed ends of the chin, the lower yawbones and the chin proper. Macc. 20b. - Pl. שבלים, שבלין, שיב׳. Sabb. 113b וכ׳ לקטה ש׳ שתי two ears that fell down she (Ruth) picked up, three, she did not; Yalk. Ruth 60. Tosef. Peah II, 21 השי׳ (ed. Zuck. השו׳, corr. acc.); a. fr. - 2) (cmmp. יבלא I) הנהר ש׳ the current of the river, rapid stream. Makhsh. I, 6 וכ׳ הכ׳ בש׳.. . הנותן if a person puts his products on a rapid, that it may float them down. Gen. R. s. 56 [read;] מש׳ גנו את ששמר לאחד עמו בנו גן והקיף הנ׳ like one that guarded his garden from the ravages of the current, and surrounded his son s garden at the same time.

שיבור, שב׳ m. (שבר) breaking, dashing to pieces. Y. B. Kam. II, 3a top הש׳ על for the breaking (destroying tho tops of plants). Y. Ab. Zar. IV, 44a (ref. to Deut. VII, 5) וכ׳ גידוע או ש׳ או either dashiog, or hewing down, or pulling down is ordained for each of them (the altar, pillars &c.). Ex.R. s. 46, beg. הלוחות ש׳ על over his break- ing the tablets. Y. שיבוש, שב׳ m. (שבש, v. שבשתא) confusion, blunder. R. Hash. 30b בש׳ שלא . . . שיהא כדי so that there be time enough to offer . . . and to sing the appropriate psalm without confusion. Ib. וכ׳ ש׳ לך אין כלל אמור דלא כיון since they recited no song at all (on account of the late hour), there could be no greater confusion than this.
