CHAPTER 1.
Phonology.
The Polish alphabet is as follows :—
A, pronounced as in Italian. B, " as in English. C, " as ts, D, " as in English. E, " as in Italian. F, " as in English.[1] G, " as in English, but always hard. H, " as in English. I, " as in Italian. J, " as English y. K, " as in English. L, " as in English. Ł, " as a very strong l, the pronunciation of which can only be learned from a native. It is pronounced by forcing the end of the tongue against the teeth.
- ↑ This letter is never found in any really Slavonic word in its original state. When used it is either a word derived from a foreign language or arises from some phonetic corruption. (See Malecki, i. 72.)
