When glad "good-morrows" dreamed, are not,

Must ever be, unspoken ; When morning trills her harp in vain,

While one sweet wire is broken !

Ah, when that silver cord was loosed,

Swiftly the parting quiver Sent waves of harmony, to break

Over beyond the river.

Remember ever, friend of mine,

The clang you heard at breaking Was but a cry just out of sleep,

Herald of glad awaking.

For you a few more cloudy morns,

Misty with silent sorrow, Then, guided by those echoed tones,

You ll find a glad to-morrow.
