2 May (p.2) withdrawn as I reached for it. Spent about 1 1/2 hrs at this locality, then returned home. Birds seen there include Balt. Oriole, Common Grackle, a kingbird (think eastern), Mourning Dove. At the Bird farm, Chipping Sparrows have been around yesterday & today. Ca. 2 June Chelydra serpentina picked up crossing old Hwy 40, 1/2 mi. W Hays city limits, Ellis Co., Kans. Cloudy, moist. 15 June Bought new (second-hand) Volkswagen. Mileage equals 18030 miles. See 16 June for info on turtles. 16 June Picked up the Volkswagen. In evening (dusk), heard loud bird noises. Found a screech owl (gray) in trees above trailer. Robins were "buzzing" it regularly; at least one male House Sparrow nearby. Commotion lasted prob some 10 min. Nita and the girls and I walked to Big Creek, ca. 1/2 mi. W Hays city limits, Ellis Co., Kans., in late afternoon yesterday. Found remains of at least 5 Chelydra serpentina on bank above Big Creek--apparently thrown there by fishermen. Also several decayed fish heads, which I left. 24 June Took Grassland Tax. Class out west of Albertson Hall to vicinity of Big Creek,
