25 June (p.2) replaced the two dickcissel eggs--didn't replace the cowbird egg. 17 July Collected a common grackle and a starling this morning from along big Creek on the Bird Farm. Redheaded Wdpeckers, House Sparrow seen, also. In the early evening collected a vesper sparrow. Also saw a sparrow hawk, a cuckoo (probably yellow-billed), blue Jay, eastern kingbird, grackles. 18 July Shot a red-headed woodpecker from elm tree by Big Creek on Bird Farm. Skeletonized. 19 July In late afternoon shot an eastern kingbird from same tree as the red-headed woodpecker yesterday. We are having evening flights of grackles daily. Many Blue Jays still about—freq. see about home. Some mourning doves, Baltimore Orioles (orchard not seen recently), starlings, house sparrows, meadowlarks. 29 July Made preparations for moving the girls to Albuquerque & for towing down the Volkswagen. Rambler mileage at start of trip tomorrow will be 18680.2. Rented towbar for four days @ $4.00 1st day, 2.-- each succeeding.
