5 Aug. Milage at leaving Hays:20469.9. 9 Aug. Arrived in El Paso about 3:45 pm Friday and met Anita at the Thunderbird Motel. Money not in from Museum of New Mexico despite fact due to be paid in latter half July, that reminded them so in letter (to Honea), and that stopped in personally on Monday the 2nd (at which time assured it would be in El Paso before end of week. After considerable time on phone to Peckham, etc., they said would pay expenses until check arrived late Mon. At something after 6 pm, got call from local bank official that check in—he'd bring around tomorrow morning. Bank official called at 9:30 am Sat. morning, saying would be at Thunderbird at 9:45. At about 10:00 called & said was on opposite side of town due to error in reading address—would I come get check? I and Harry Parsons, the mobile home mover, went and got, then tried to get cashed so could pay Harry. Didn't succeed and finally he paid charge in cash (a hardship on him since he'd have to go thru much red tape to pay Morgan Drive-away, etc.).Too late for him to check out, so I paid his
