18 Sept. (p.2) hole a Contopus sordidulus from a tree about 3/4 of the way up the S wall. Vegetation on the walls & floor include 4-winged salt bush, cholla cactus, mesquite, Dalia (D. formosa ?), prickly pear cactus, a mammilaria (??), Yucca elata. After left Kilbourne Hole, drove back to near Hunts Hole and collected two creosote bushes, then returned home. Total mileage, 68 miles (-334 to - 402). Mileage too low by about 10 miles. 22 Sept. Further work with map, etc., indicates reversal of hole names over original. Thus the one originally visited is Hunts Hole, the northern one is Kilbourne Hold. Talked with William Strain today. He believes the holes to be explosion features resulting from trapped groundwater in conjunction with the lava. 5 Oct. After school, checked briefly in a mine shaft for bats--none found. Shaft is immediately south of Anapra, Dona Ana Co., N. Mex., off the paved road from the brick factory to Anapra. 10 Oct. In morning, drove with the girls and Anita to La Union and then west to the East Potrillos Mts. A tank with water located at SW1/4 SW1/4 Sec. 23, T27S, R2W. Red-shafted flickers & roadrunner here--looks likely for birds. Entered the mts around the northern end, between the
