27 Dec. (p.2) fir, western white pine, a little ponderosa and Juniperus. Some small Quercus gambeli, partic. on S slopes Sign of Tamiasciurus, Sylvilagus, and canines (fox? or coyote?) common. Interspersed open areas present, Raven, Stellars Jays, and red-backed juncos about, but unable to collect 1st two. Museum Specials set mostly in oak areas around fallen logs, stumps, brush, etc. Had to pick up a little over an hour after setting out--1 Microtus longicaudus from edge log buried in snow. About 2 miles nearer Cloudcroft, came across an auto accident–one car had sideswiped another on an icy curve. No one hurt & we attempted to clear the road & remove the car that would still run from the snow off the edge of the road. Gave up latter &, informed that a tow truck was enroute, continued toward home. Another accident west of Cloudcroft, but traffic only slightly impeded.
