22 Dec. (p.2) & west to Rio Grande & Non levee roads to US 70 W of Las Cruces. Levee rds and N Mex 28 back to Vado & returned home via Interstate 10 & Mesa Hwy. Shot several birds. A meadowlark from a cotton field at 1/2 mi. W and 3 mi. S Anthony, El Paso Co., Texas. Mileage figured from state line. Shot 3 red-winged blackbirds from a large flock in pecan grove & pecan tree--locality approx. 1 mi. N jct. Rio Grande with San Miguel-Mesquite Rd., Doña Ana Co., N. Mex. At approx. 1 1/2 mi. N jct. Rio Grande with San Miguel-Mesquite Rd., Doña Ana Co.,N. Mex. shot a mourning dove. At 2 1/2 mi. N jct. Rio Grande with San Miguel-Mesquite Rd., Doña Ana Co., N. Mex., a red-shafted flicker. Latter two in pecan groves. Another Red-shafted Flicker at 10.7 mi. N jct. Rio Grande with San Miguel-Mesquite Rd., Doña Ana Co., N. Mex. A number of hawks, mostly apparently sparrow hawks & ? red-tailed hawks, seen. Also white-crowned sparrows very common. A snipe -like bird flushed from same area as 2nd flicker. Many meadowlarks in that area. 27 Dec. Drove to approx. 7 miles S (by road) Cloudcroft, Otero Co.,N. Mex. Enroute, stuck in snow for a bout 1½ hrs. At the locality about 8 “ snow, of which about 3” over a hard crust. Set out 22 Museum Specials and 2 rat traps. Area of aspen, Douglas
