Bound in gray-blue cloth with brown pictorial stamping and lettering on the cover; gold lettering on the spine with two small ornaments in brown, and publisher’s stamp in gold; gilt top. 416 numbered pages; the last page is not numbered, but has “2D” in lower left-hand corner. The first issue has only one page of advertisements at the back of the book, printed on only one side of the page. The later issues have the full publisher’s list. The size of the page is 5×7½. The end-papers are black. There are sixteen full-page illustrations in black and white by Arthur Rackham.

There are twelve full-page illustrations in colour and ninety drawings in black and white, also pictorial end-papers, all by Arthur Rackham. This book was reprinted in 1907 in a larger edition with added illustrations.
