The trade edition is bound in green cloth with pictorial stamping in gold on the cover and spine end gold lettering. Eight illustrations in colour and fifty-two drawings in black and white and pictorial end-papers. Size, 7⅛×9¾. There is also another binding in dark green mottled leather with the same gold stamping and the same number of illustrations. All first editions are dated 1918 on the reverse title page.

American Edition: This edition is the same as the English trade edition that is bound in green cloth. Published by J. B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia. The limited edition has the same binding as the English edition.

Frontispiece in colour mounted on cream paper, three double-page illustrations that are silhouette drawings with colour, one single page silhouette drawing with colour, thirteen full-page silhouette drawings without colour, and thirty-six silhouette drawings in the text. There is an extra coloured plate in this edition that is not in the trade editions. Limited to 850 copies, numbered and signed by the artist, of which 525 (500 for sale) are printed on English hand-made paper and 325 (300 for sale) on Japanese vellum. The copies printed on the English hand-made paper are bound in green boards with tan cloth back and with the pictorial stamping on the cover and spine in black, and black lettering. The copies printed on the Japanese vellum are bound in the white boards.
