स्थितधीः किं प्रभाषेत किमासीत व्रजेत किम् ॥ ५४ ॥

Arjuna said:

What the mark, of him who is stable of mind,[1] steadfast in contemplation, O Keshava? How doth the stable-minded[2] talk, how doth he sit, how walk? (54)

श्रीभगवानुवाच ।

प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सर्वान्पार्थ मनोगतान् ।

आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्टः स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते ॥ ५५ ॥

The Blessed Lord said:

When a man abandoneth, O Pârtha, all the desires of the heart[3], and is satisfied in the Self by the Self, then is he called stable in mind[4]. (55)

दुःखेष्वनुद्विग्नमनाः सुखेषु विगतस्पृहः । वीतरागभयक्रोधः स्थितधीर्मुनिरुच्यते ॥ ५६ ॥

He whose mind[1] is free from anxiety amid pains, indifferent amid pleasures, loosed from
