Incorporated by act of 14th August, 1884, for the construction of a dock at Barry Island, 7 miles from Cardiff, and the construction of railways of about 26 miles in length from the dock to the Rhondda Valley, with access by junctions with existing and authorised railways to all the other great mineral-producing districts of the South Wales coal-field. Authorised capital, 1,060,000l.; loans, 350,000l.

By act of 31st July, 1885, powers were given to construct a short line between Barry Dock and the Penarth Branch of the Taff Vale, in order to afford facilities for communication between Cardiff and Barry. New capital, 90,000l.; loans, 30,000l.

By act of 7th August, 1888, it was provided that facilities should be given by the Taff Vale Company to traffic passing between the systems of the two companies at Hafod and Treforest, and that, in default thereof, the Railway Commissioners may authorise the Barry Company to exercise running powers over the Taff Vale lines north of Treforest and west of Hafod.

By act of 26th July, 1889, the company was empowered to raise new capital. 300,000l.; loans, 100,000l. The same act authorised also the formation of a separate pilotage board for the port of Barry.

By act of 4th July, 1890, the company was empowered to raise capital, 240,000l loans, 80,000l.

By act of 24th August, 1893, the name of the company was charged to "The Barry Railway Company," and powers were given to construct railways gaining access to Cardiff, and to run over the Great Western's Riverside Branch. New Capital, 150,000l.; loans, 60,000l.

By act of 24th August, 1898, the company was empowered to construct an additional dock and the requisite railways for connecting it with the main line. Powers were also given to construct tramroads, and to purchase additional lands. New capital, 480,000l.; loans, 160,000l.

By act of 17th August, 1894, powers were given for the construction of a railway of about three-fourths of a mile long from Barry Station to near the centre of Barry Island, and of a breakwater at the western extremity of the island; also for the purchase of additional lands; for the splitting of the ordinary stack, and for the consolidation of certain of the preference stocks and shares and of the debenture stocks. New capital, 150,000l.; loans, 50,000l.

By act of 20th June, 1895, powers were given for the purchase of additional lands. New capital, 70,000l; loans, 23,000l.

By act of 7th August, 1896, powers were given to construct railways from nearSt. Fagans to points on the Walnut Tree and Aber branches of the Rhymney Railway; and also an extension of the island railway to the deep lock entrance; to parchase additional lands. New capital, 350,000l.; loans, 116,000l.

By act of 15th July, 1897, the construction of about (illegible text) miles of railway, and the purchase of additional lands at Cadoxton, were authorised. New capital, 210,000l.; loans, 70,000l.
